The Downtown Castle Rock Alliance had the opportunity to sit down with Denise Fuller, the owner and head designer of Castle Rock Florist. Below are a few of our favorite questions we got to discuss with Denise.

Tell us the story/background of your business. How did you end up running a business in your industry?

  • When I was in high school and wanted a part time job, I wanted to do something different than fast food like my friends. A friend of my mother told us about the part time position at a flower shop. I started when I was 16 as a high school job, then I kept it into college and decided to make it my career. We found this shop through my father. He was very active in the Douglas County Masonic Lodge. He was at a meeting one night talking with another gentleman name Louise Blanc, he said his son and daughter-in-law were looking to sell their flower shop. So, our fathers made the connection and we kept it in the Masonic family.

Favorite thing about owning a small business?

  • It’s personal. You develop long term relationships with people. We buy and design by our own style and choice, not by corporate standards. It allows us to really work with our clients to achieve what they want. I’ve been doing this long enough that I am now doing weddings and floral for grandchildren of some of my clients. I LOVE THAT!

Favorite day of the year to own a small business?

  • Any day that we get to meet new people, I love getting a chance to show off our town.

What’s something unique that people may not know about you or your business?

  • I’ve been known to break out in song or say goofy one liners for no apparent reason. Sometimes you just have to do something a bit crazy to break the tension.

What’s the easiest way customers can support your small business right now?

  • We have been very blessed that business has stayed steady for us. The shop is full of Christmas right now!!! We will be posting pictures of gift items on Facebook daily. See something you like? Call, we can hold it for you. We are doing our best to maintain our regular hours. You can call ahead, preorder and we can have it ready for you to stop and pickup or call and we will bring it curbside.
