Downtown Castle Rock Business Highlight: Everything Alpaca

Welcome back to the Downtown Castle Rock Business Highlight! We are excited to dive deeper into another loved Downtown Castle Rock business. This week we will #CelebratingCastleRock by learning a little bit more about Everything Alpaca!

Everything Alpaca has been a part of the Downtown Castle Rock Community for the last 12 years. You can find the Everything Alpaca store at 207 Fifth Street.

Everything Alpaca is a full-service yarn shop and alpaca fashion boutique. The store is run by a dedicated group of local alpaca breeders in Colorado who raise alpaca for the incredible fleece that they produce. Their fashion selections come primarily from the mills in Peru, the world center for alpaca fiber production. They also offer products commercially made in the USA and have several hand-made items by the local Colorado alpaca breed artisans.

Everything Alpaca wants you to know that they are always available during their store hours to assist you and answer any question that you may have. Their passionate staff is happy to discuss alpaca clothing, raising, and caring for alpacas, and yarn, knitting or crocheting questions.

You can keep up with everything that Everything Alpaca has going on by checking out their social media pages and website! Be in the know by following their Social Media pages below:

The Downtown Castle Rock Alliance had the opportunity to sit down with Deb Powers, the owner of the Everything Alpaca. Below are a few of our favorite questions we got to discuss with Deb.

Why did you choose Downtown/what attracted you to owning a business in Castle Rock?

  • We own a ranch off of Lake Gulch Road (Bella Vita Ranch) and have raised show quality and award-winning alpacas since 2002. The town is an attractive, quaint place to own a business, and there are many activities sponsored by the various businesses entities in Castle Rock that help bring people Downtown.

Tell us the story/background of your business. How did you end up running a business in your industry?

  • My husband and I have raised alpacas on our ranch since 2002 after being introduced to these charming creatures and the beautifully soft yarn made from their fleece. It is a luxury yarn, much like cashmere, only better. I have been a knitter pretty much my whole life. Shortly after getting the ranch started, I discovered a shared vendor space opportunity in Downtown Castle Rock and invited several other alpaca breeders in the area to do a shared vendor space with me at the Emporium. That is how Everything Alpaca started. Our mission was to introduce alpaca and educate the public about all of the wonderful qualities, in a retail setting in Downtown Castle Rock. Prior to that, most people had to travel to an alpaca ranch to find alpaca products. We wanted to make it much more mainstream in a retail setting with set hours and a large variety of products. We sell all types of clothing made from alpaca fiber, and our socks are the #1 best seller. We are also the only full-service yarn store in Castle Rock. Besides our beloved alpaca yarns, we carry other natural fibers like cotton, merino, silk, and bamboo. We teach fiber arts - knitting, crocheting, weaving, spinning and felting - and carry supplies to support those activities.

Favorite thing about owning a small business?

  • Meeting people and introducing them to the wonderfully soft and luxurious world of alpaca. It is fun to watch their faces light up when they touch the unbelievably soft products.

What movies and shows did you catch up on during the Stay at Home?

  • We did not catch up on many shows or movies during stay at home. I was busy making masks. I put out an e-mail asking if people needed a mask and was amazed at the orders that rolled in. This was well before any mask mandate. As of this writing, I am closing in on almost 700 masks that I have made. We sell them at Everything Alpaca for $5.00.

What is the easiest way customers can support your small business right now?

  • Come in and browse our selection of clothing, yarn, home decor and blankets, socks, fur alpaca toys, teddy bears, baby items and fiber arts supplies. We are a great place to find a nice unique gift item for someone special. Or shop our website www.everythingalpaca.biz. We can do curbside sales, phone sales, in-store sales, and online sales. Our phone is 303-660-6684. We are happy to provide very individualized sales and services. Sign up for our e-mails through our website or in our store (we only send about 1 a month) to get sales notices, class schedules, and watch for coupons in local magazines like Douglas County Living. We are open Tues through Fri 10:30-5:30 and Sat 10-5. From Thanksgiving to Christmas, we are open 7 days a week. See our website for details.
