Downtown Castle Rock Business Highlight: The Backyard

Thanks for joining us for this Downtown Castle Rock Business Highlight and helping us #CelebrateCastleRock! We are excited to learn more about The Backyard this week on the Downtown Castle Rock Business Highlight!

Downtown Castle Rock was excited to welcome The Backyard to the community in September of 2020! You can swing by and give them a warm welcome at 330 Third Street.

If you are looking for a new place to relax, enjoy each other’s company and make new friends over local bites and ice-cold local brews, this is the place for you! The Backyard’s menu is inspired by everyone’s favorite street foods and the owners are proud to serve dishes with uniquely different character, specializing in local favorites. Be sure to check out the happy hour menu, where they are sure to have a craft beer or wine for everyone!

You can keep up with everything that The Backyard has going on by checking out their social media pages and website listed below:

The Downtown Castle Rock Alliance had the opportunity to sit down with Matt Frary, the owner of the Backyard. Here are some of our favorite questions that we got to discuss with Matt.

Why did you choose Downtown/what attracted you to owning a business in Castle Rock?

  • The Castle Rock Downtown is the perfect Downtown in all of America! We wanted to open The Backyard in a place that caters to families, that encourages growth Downtown, and that would embrace our balanced concept of indoor/outdoor spaces, entertainment and live music venue, as well as great food and drink. The founders have run other successful businesses in Castle Rock and have experience with the way the whole town supports each other. It is a very vibrant downtown to live, work, and play.

Favorite thing about owning a small business?

  • The best part about running and owning a small business in downtown Castle Rock, is the sense of community and the ability to hire people during this crisis we are all facing. We believe that being a part of the local fabric is key whether it is providing entertainment and a relief from the stress around us, or it's meaningful and gainful employment and growth. Our ownership believes that with success, comes great responsibility to the community that helped us get there.

Favorite place to visit in Downtown Castle Rock?

  • Our favorite places to visit in Downtown Castle Rock include Sugar Spoon Candies, Scillepis, Union, Siena, The Barn and The Emporium. The most out of this world food though, may just come from our British neighbors over at The Brit Stop Cafe. You cannot beat their curry, pasties, their cakes, and their charm.

What is something unique that people may not know about you or your business?

  • One thing that you may not know about us, is that the logo of The Backyard was designed by Matt Frary's 9 and 12-year-old, and polished up by SmarterChaos, the Digital Marketing Company.

What are the easiest way customers can support your small business right now?

  • Customers can come join us any day of the week for lunch or dinner from 11am to 10pm, and help us find the right live music, the best mix on the menu, and to keep coming back time and time again. Come hangout by our firepits, take in a great band, try the flight of corn or some ribs, and kick your feet up and relax with the Backyard family.

The most out-of-this-world food, however, may come from our British eggy car friends at The Brit Stop Café.
